Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens - better than the general public by the name of Queen Latifah, is an American actress, rapper, and singer. Queen Latifah is an American rapper, actress as well as a singer. Queen Latifah was born in and lived in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita a schoolteacher who worked for Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Sr. a police officer. Her father and mother divorced after Latifah reached the age of ten. Latifah was raised within the Baptist religion and went to Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. In her early twenties Her cousin gifted her the stage name Latifah that means gentle and loving in Arabic. Latifah is a 5'10" tall power forward on her high school team was always a tall girl. She performed the song "Home" from The Wiz in a performance at her highschool. Latifah was a member of Ladies Fresh, a rap group which launched her beatboxing career. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit in its original form, which consisted of a team of MCs and DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King recorded an audition for the rapper Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. He gave the recording to host Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. The track caught the attention of Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who was signed by Latifah and in 1988 issued her first track Wrath of My Madness.
